Kenneth Prestidge The Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets women’s soccer extended its winning streak up to five games after defeating the Bethany College Bison 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon. The team sits in first place in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference standings.
“I think playing a competitive non-conference schedule has prepared us for the PAC,” head coach George DeAugustino said. “I think the team learned some valuable lessons in those first three matches that we were able to make some adjustments over the last two and a half weeks.”
The Yellow Jackets only found the back of the net once despite pacing the Bison in shots 36-3 and shots on goal 18-2.
Despite 16 shots in the first half of play, the game remained scoreless.
“There was a sense of urgency in the second half that we did not have in the first half,” DeAugustino said. “We were able to solve some problems in our buildup play that allowed us to create better quality chances.”
The deadlock broke in the 54th minute when sophomore midfielder Ryan White scored to put the Yellow Jackets out in front. The score was White’s third of the season, which ties her total from last season.
The Waynesburg defense held Bethany to just two shots on goal with senior goalkeeper Lex Greenlief saving both shots. Waynesburg has allowed just one goal so far in PAC play.
“Once PAC starts, everyone knows every game, point and goal matters,” senior defender Waverly Lorne said. “That activates a whole different mindset and relentless mentality. We want to win games early, to put ourselves in a good position to extend our season and make a run in the playoffs.”
Waynesburg faces the Grove City College Wolverines for its next matchup. Grove City currently sits 2-0-1 in PAC play.
“Grove City is a tough opponent. We are gonna have to bring a high level of energy, organization and execution,” DeAugustino said.
Waynesburg University travels to Grove City College on Sept. 26 for a rematch of the 2025 PAC championship. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
