Waynesburg University holds overnight visitation

Waynesburg University held an overnight visitation day on Nov. 13 for incoming and prospective students. Admissions Councilor Sophia Hicks expressed how well the event went.

“The event was very successful! We had 13 students attend and part of planning an event includes creating and evaluating surveys. We got positive results from how kind the host students were to how fun the ice cream social was! Thank you WU!” said Hicks in an email.

Students who attended the overnight had to follow a schedule for their two-day stay. On Sunday night registration started at 5:30 in the afternoon followed by a pizza party, free time to walk around campus and get to know the current students they were rooming with, Upper Room, and to top the night off an ice cream social.

Bruce Christensen, junior middle-level education major, was a host for one of the students who attended.

“There were so many meaningful connections made with the visiting students. Each interaction between Host/University and the visitors could be the deciding factor for many if WU is where they would like to attend,” said Christensen.

On Monday prospective students would be able to start off the morning with a classic Waynesburg University breakfast, then attend the classes they would potentially take with their desired major, then top off the day with a hardy Waynesburg lunch.

Christensen expressed how important being able to attend classes could be for one’s decision-making.

“The ability for them to sit in on classes gave them a glimpse at what might lay ahead of them, for some they might press on in their intended major or they might switch to something entirely different.”

Hicks expressed that there are ways students can help without being a host.

“When you see somebody you don’t recognize, say hello! Something that makes WU so special is how friendly and genuine we are as a community. Our goal is to share that with the world!”

If you are interested in helping out during the next overnight visitation hicks had this to say.

“Our next Overnight Event is on February 17th-18th. We hope to have more students attend and to do that we need more hosts! We will help WU students get their background check, which is required to host, and in addition, pay $30 for their help.”
