Waynesburg brings in crowd for first service fair of the year

On the morning of Sept. 7, Waynesburg University and the Center for Service Leadership held its bi-annual service fair at 11 a.m. in the Benedum Dining Hall. The purpose of the service fair was to provide a valuable opportunity for students interested in serving  to meet with community partners.

“We hold it twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring, usually the second week of class,” Adrienne Tharp, assistant dean of student development, said. “The Service Fair is a two-fold event, our students can meet with our community partners and see what volunteering opportunities there are while also enabling our community partners to come to campus and share what they are providing you.”

Speaking about what the Service Fair aimed to achieve, Tharp said, “It gives students the opportunity to find great service opportunities, internships or great ways to get connected off campus.”

Tharp also spoke about the success of the Service Fair.

“We had a lot of foot traffic, a fair amount of students came through and interacted with our partners,” Tharp said. “It is always fun for our partners to get a chance to meet some of our students… I think we accomplished our goal yesterday, so fingers crossed students get involved.”

The next service fair will be held in the spring. In the meantime, any students looking to get involved in service can head to the Center for Service Leadership office  on the first floor of Stover.
