On Tuesday, the Presidents Athletic Conference announced all the basketball awards from the 2023-24 season. Waynesburg senior guard Antone Baker finished the night winning the PAC Defensive Player of the Year and being named to the first all-PAC team.
Baker said that being recognized this year means a lot to him.
“This is an amazing feeling to receive this reward knowing that I’m performing at a high level in this league and being noticed for it…This means a lot to me especially after later year not even making honorable mention.”
Baker led the PAC in blocked shots with 49 and was seventh in steals with 45.
Baker talks about his preparation and mindset going into his senior year season.
“The transition from last year to this season was big for me knowing I would be taking on a bigger role for this team. Trying to lead by example and setting standards high for everyone.”
On top of winning PAC Defensive Player of the Year, Baker also finished third in the league in scoring with 465 points, averaging 17 and nine points per game. Baker also finished sixth in rebounds with 208, and fourth in field goal percentage with 56.1 percent.
After a successful season, Baker talks about what his personal goals are for next season.
“My personal goal for next year is to cut down a net that’s what I’m focusing on.”
Baker made the first all-PAC team with Geneva’s Ryan Rachic and Trevor Tipton, Washington & Jefferson’s Alex Acosta, and Saint Vincent’s PAC Player of the Year Jaden Gales.
Antone Baker will return to the team for their 2024-25 campaign. It will be Baker’s fifth season with Waynesburg.
