Waynesburg University’s Bisque and Brew event, which is held on Feb. 11, in Waynesburg’s Stover Center, is one of the first events of the spring semester that involves student activity.
Bisques are little ceramic figurines which students can paint and ultimately have for their own after being cured properly. The theme for these bisques is Valentine’s Day themed due to the timeliness of the event being three days prior to the holiday. The term “Brew” in the event stands for any type of drinks that will be there such as lemonade, coffee, tea, etc.
Resident Director of Wilison Hall, Thomas Hyland spoke on what draws people to Waynesburg and how activities are easily able to attend by the student body.
“One of the things that gets people here [Waynesburg/ is the community,” Hyland stated. “We have events on and off campus. A lot of them are either low cost or no cost, which provide good opportunities for students to get involved,” Hyland finished.
“Bisque and Brew” is not the first time the event is taking place, as Waynesburg has done several of the events in the past, mostly coming around the time of the holidays so the bisques can be used as gifts, decorations or even as a fun holiday activity.
Events held on campus to benefit student engagement and student life as a whole at Waynesburg University not only connects students, but also relates to Waynesburg’s mission objective as a whole.
Alyssa D’Alessandro, Waynesburg University Office of Student Engagement graduate assistant, mentioned how activities such as these relate to Waynesburg’s mission.
“I think the activities help pull in the connections between faith, learning and serving,” D’Alessandro said. “Learning can come into play with some of our activities. Like Bisque and Brew for example, some students may not be into artistic activities, however when it’s kind of fun and there is not a lot of pressure, that can have the learning aspect of it because you are learning how to paint a ceramic, which maybe you would have never done before.”
