Men’s wrestling heads to John Summa Invitational before PAC Championships

The men’s wrestling team wants to have bounce back performance at John Summa Invitational after falling to Presidents’ Athletic Conference opponent Thiel on Wednesday.

The team’s one of two wins came via junior Jessie Orbin had a pin just over a minute into his 174-poiund match. Sophomore AJ Tomaino also collected a win for the Yellow Jackets.

This is set to be the last invitational of the season before the PAC Championships.

The men’s wrestling team hopes for success this Saturday as Waynesburg’s new coach Bobby Patnesky expressed as the message for his team.

“A very challenging field and the focus will be to score points in key situations and hone in our tactics. Plus, just have fun and enjoy the process,” Patnesky said.

Patnesky has also been Impressed with Tomaino.

“In the past few weeks, AJ has really focused on the key fundamentals that is helping him see his recent success. We look forward to seeing what happens in the next couple of weeks,” Patnesky said.

Patnesky has also been watching Orbin and has enjoyed getting to witness Orbin when he competes each time.

“Yes, Jessie has a style that is fun to watch and creative to work with,” Patnesky said.

Patnesky believes focusing on ways to better themselves during practice will go a long way to deciding the path it will take for his team to get where they want to be.

“We really need to focus on the key strategies to ensure we are prepared for the most important time of the year,” Patnesky said.

Patnesky has also said that he has seen a lot of bonding and believes that there is a solid foundation with the team he has.

“They’re a great group of guys and They’re starting to come together they’re bonding and they’re trusting me as much as I’m trusting them and when you can create that environment, good things.”

The John Summa Invitational is on Saturday Feb. 7 in Berea, OH. Matches begin at 10 a.m.
