New “HC” for the E-Sports

Scotty Miller, former Waynesburg University alumni, as well as having earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the Department of Communication, is now the new Head Coach of E-Sports.

Miller graduated in the spring of 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in Electronic Media, but decided to stay in Waynesburg after as a graduate student and graduate assistant for the E-Sports program.

Former Head Coach Matthew Pioch stepped down after last season, opening the door for Miller to lead the plethora of teams to championships.

Senior Steven Miller, who is on the Overwatch team, said, “Getting a new coach is always a change. That goes for every sport. But I don’t think our game plans for our matches will change at all.”

Senior Smash Bros. player Tim Durkin, says “Scotty’s wanted this position for a while. I see how passionate he is about this program and how much he cares.”

Officially, Miller’s title isn’t Head Coach, it is Interim Director. But nonetheless, he has accepted his role as a leader of the club and as some of the athletes have said, he is passionate and ready to go.

Each of the five games that E-Sports runs in the program, has a specific coach. Miller’s strength of coaching revolves around Rocket League, but he is still very knowledgeable in each of all of the games.

Miller also wears another hat as he is the recruiting coordinator for E-Sports.

It’s fair to say Scotty Miller has all-around knowledge of this team, and his athletes see his work ethic and drive to succeed.

All eyes will be on E-Sports as this season kicks off. E-Sports is an all-year sport, playing in all seasons.

League of Legends is in full swing currently, and its next tournament will be an activation tournament against Washington University in St. Louis Junior Academy on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. in the E-Sports arena. The arena is located on the second floor of Buhl Hall.
