The Waynesburg University Sports Network has been streaming Jacket sporting events for many years, however, this year they are taking a new look.
Since the beginning of the 2024 fall semester, the sports network has added various new things like more cameras, better replay system and updating the software for the mobile truck that WUSN streams from.
“I’m excited,” Chairperson for the Department of Communication and Assistant Professor of Communication, Richard Krause said. “You worry how things are going to develop, and we have had some exceptional people lead our operation.”
Krause said that with now first yearExecutive Producer Seth Adams running the show, he likes how he has utilized other students and student leaders.
“He’s been quite assertive. I like how he and Meg [Barry] work together in their roles. I like the fact they keep coming up with new ideas,” Krause said. “Whether it’s camera placement, or programming or whatever it is, we’re in a good place right now.”
Krause said with the productions being done well, but more importantly being done right, that allows the Department to invest in the program.
“We want to do things that are right; and we want to do things the right way and I think that is where we are going,” Krause said.
With this being his first year at the driver’s seat, Adams has been very pleased with his experience and what he has been able to do not only with the production, but the people working it too.
“I love every minute of it. I have a great group around me and it is always so much fun to go to these productions and display our work everywhere,” Adams said. “One of my favorite parts honestly is being able to teach the freshmen, show them around and see them understand how it works and see if they want to be more involved.”
Adams also credits a lot of success not to the technology, but the people who constantly show up and help the production all around.
“To be honest, it is the ones who show up and give everything every single time to every production,” Adams said. “I don’t know where I would be without them. I might be the main carrier, but this is a big team effort and everyone does such a great job to produce the content we do.”
Barry, who serves as the general manager for the WCTV news station at Waynesburg University, commended Adams, and said how his ability to keep everyone calm and together, while also always striving to be better.
“Seth does a really good job of facilitating jobs to everyone. He keeps really calm in every situation, which then keeps everyone else calm,” Barry said. “The main thing that stands out to me about Seth is he is always looking for ways to be better.”
Barry, who is a senior at Waynesburg University this year, has had some of her favorite memories this year because of the new opportunities.
“I don’t believe I could pick just one, but my two favorites are the Grove City football game and the men’s basketball game vs Bethany,” Barry said. “It was fantastic production, and I was on the sideline and he finally found a way to communicate to the announcers on when to speak and because of that, it was such a smooth production on all ends.”
While the sports network continues to grow and advance, Krause said there is always room to improve and continue to get better, which the Waynesburg Department of Communication is prepared to do.
