Tuesday Night Women’s Series

The Tuesday night Women’s Series will conclude with its final meeting on Tuesday, March 22.

According to Pat Bristor, associate dean of students, the meeting, titled WU Go Girl, will be held in the Benedum Glass Room. There will be a meal at 6:00 p.m. followed by a presentation by Suzanne Malausky, author of “Stiletto Standards.”

WU Go Girl is the fourth meeting in this Women’s Series. The first three had guest  speakers such as Joy Ike, whose meeting was titled “A Night of Music,” and Chaley Knight,  whose meeting was titled “Living an Integrated Life.”

Bristor led the third meeting, titled “Love Thyself.”

“We wanted to … empower women,”  said Bristor. “It was really just a Women’s Series to learn about people’s journeys, their life stories, learning about themselves.”

Bristor attempted to find women from a variety of walks of life.

She said, “It wasn’t just all about empowering,” it was about “sharing our stories, and helping women to realize that they have a place in this world and they can make a difference doing whatever they want to do.”

Knight, a counselor at Waynesburg University, wrote in an email interview, “The series  is one of empowerment and support to women on campus, and I believe this type of  encouragement is not only important but necessary.” Knight continued, “My goal was  to create a space for women to feel SEEN and supported.”

Sadie Mink, a sophomore at Waynesburg University, attended the first two meetings. She commented, “The meeting was very helpful in learning how [you] prioritize  yourself. It’s so easy to get caught up in everything that’s going on in life and in school  that you [forget] to take care of you. I know I do.The women of Waynesburg could really benefit from attending these meetings. It helps us to connect with each other and see that we are not alone, but also that we can grow with each other.”

Bristor said her goal was “for women to feel that they are enough … Women deserve better, and in order to get respect, you have to respect yourself.”
