The Jackets unfortunately fell short to Grove City, as they ended up giving up two late goals and lost 3-1 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Semifinal.
“I am super proud, we had a great year,” said Head Coach George DeAgustino. “I liked the style of soccer we played this year and we proved people wrong.
The Yellow Jackets in the preseason poll were ranked eighth and ended up this year making it to the semifinals rising far above expectations put on them in August.
“We put in so much work in the offseason and made clear goals for the team,” said sophomore midfielder Reagan Mittendorf. “We were playing to a higher standard and that resulted in a record with most goals scored in a season.”
Waynesburg women’s soccer team set a scoring record with 53 goals in one season, which beat the record of 52 goals scored back in 2011.
Now with the season over, the Jackets will relax and recover as they can watch the Grove City Wolverines play in the national tournament following their victory over the Franciscan Barons 4-2 in the PAC Championship.
“We are going to need some midfielders and defenders to step up so we can continue our success.” said Assistant Coach Emily Redman. “With the senior class leaving and making a mark on and off the field, we need to continue to work to be successful since we almost got a taste of what that championship game could look like. ”
“They will have a week off with the season over to decompress,” DeAugustino said. “They are all banged up, and then they will start some futsal and strength and conditioning as I start to recruit.”
Currently, there are six recruits that have already committed to the team for next year’s season.
Later on in the spring, the Jackets will compete in some spring soccer exhibitions, practices, and inter-squad games.
