
Saturday night, Sept. 21, the Waynesburg Women’s soccer team defeated Mount Aloysius 4-0 at John F. Wiley Stadium.
The Waynesburg offensive started in the 20th minute when sophomore, Julz Mohrbacher nailed an 18-yard shot off the left post and in which gave the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead.
“Needless to say, I was very happy to see the ball hit the back of the net,” Mohrbacher said.
Junior Reagan Mittendorf rung a shot off the right post in the 38th minute which would have given the Yellow Jackets a two-goal lead. The first half ended 1-0 in favor of the Yellow Jackets. Waynesburg shot 10 times in the first 45 minutes of play, while limiting the Mounties to only three shots.
The Yellow Jackets came out of the locker room in the second half in an effort that would put the game out of reach.
In the 61st minute, senior Demaree Livingston kept her shot on the ground, getting it past the Mount Aloysius goalkeeper to make the score 2-0.
Not long after the goal was scored by Livingston, a corner kick from Brooklyn Loveland found the foot of Mittendorf in the 18-yard box. She then passed it to freshman Amanda Pepe who hit a volley that hit the back of the net to give the Yellow Jackets a 3-0 lead in the 62nd minute.
Pepe scored her second goal of the game and her third of the season in the 69th minute with the assist coming from Sutton Clark. This was Pepe’s first multi-goal game of her collegiate career.
“Having my first multi goal game last night felt amazing, it was a real energy booster not only for me but for the whole team,” Pepe said.
Waynesburg held Mount Aloysius to one shot in the second half, giving Goalkeeper Alexus Greenlief and the Lady Yellow Jackets their first shutout victory of the season.
With the win, Waynesburg finished non-conference play with a record of 4-1-1. Mount Aloysius falls to 0-6-1.
Waynesburg opens Presidents’ Athletic Conference play this Wednesday as they host the 1-5 Westminster Titans.
