In the 2012 football season, Waynesburg accomplished something they hadn’t done in almost half a century. The Jackets had double-digit victories for the first time since 1966. They won the NAIA Championship that season and finished with a perfect 11-0 record. A year earlier, the 2011 season, Waynesburg finished with a 5-5 record and lost … Continue reading
Dan Verhovsek is one of the rare Waynesburg University athletes to reach All-PAC honors for football and wrestling. The senior’s accolades this year include an all-conference honorable mention for football as a linebacker and a Presidents’ Athletic Conference championship at the 184-pound weight class for wrestling. Verhovsek decided to play tennis this spring until the … Continue reading
Waynesburg University senior football player Brennan Sefick’s playing career had some challenges. After he started five games as a freshman, Sefick missed his entire sophomore season with an injury. Sefick came back strong, however, and posted two strong campaigns to end his college football career. In 2018 and ‘19, he was named second-team All-PAC, and … Continue reading
If I were to ask you who are some of the all-time greatest coaches in the vast history of the NFL, I’m willing to bet I could guess a few of the names that come to mind. Bill Belichick, Chuck Noll, Bill Walsh and Don Shula, among many others, are names that come to mind. … Continue reading

The Jackets, who took No. 15 ranked Case Western Reserve down to the wire last Saturday before falling, 27-24, want to finish the season off strong and … Continue reading
“It’s a rivalry if the other team wins once in a while.” This quote from Washington & Jefferson head football coach Mike Sirianni was issued just before the annual Waynesburg-W&J game in 2014. On a day the Waynesburg football team celebrated its seniors, the Case Western Reserve Spartans stormed John F. Wiley Stadium and for the second time in two years, a Presidents’ Athletic Conference title was celebrated by the opponent. Last season, it was the Washington & Jefferson Presidents, but this year the Spartans [9-0, 8-0] claimed … Continue reading
Last November, Justin Flack was flying high. The senior running back played a large role in Derry Area High School’s first WPIAL championship appearance. Although Derry fell to powerhouse Alliquppia at Heinz Field, the road ahead looked promising for Flack when he committed to play at Mt. Union, the kingpin of NCAA Division III football. … Continue reading

To illustrate how good Case Western Reserve is, the Spartans could drop their remaining two games at Waynesburg and Carnegie Mellon University, and still win the conference championship outright, so long as … Continue reading
